Many industries generate wastewater that cannot be discharged directly to sewers or surface water without cleaning. Applications range from rinsing ink and paint mixing vessels to washing airline catering trolleys. Efficient treatment is essential to meet emission limits and minimise environmental impact. Chemtrade International B.V. specialises in this industrial wastewater treatment.
Each wastewater type has its own pollutant load and requires a suitable approach. The objective is to release contaminants, flocculate them and remove them using filter media.
Contaminants are often solids, sometimes bound in an emulsion, such as pigments or heavy metals including zinc and iron. Reducing chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) is also important in many streams.
As of January 1, 2026 (the Netherlands) has replaced COD with TOC as the measurement parameter for calculating wastewater treatment and pollution levies, reflecting the growing importance of TOC in wastewater management.
Wastewater may arise continuously or in batches, and treatment must match the flow. Continuous processes generally use liquid chemicals, while formulated powders work well in batch treatment.
Sludge and clean water can likewise be separated continuously, using a DAF-unit (dissolved airflotation unit), a belt filter, or in batches, using a chamber filter press.
Businesses must ensure discharged water meets the applicable limits. Operating costs must also be proportionate to the results. This requires an effective product dosed to suit the wastewater. Chemtrade International primarily uses physicochemical treatment, employing a formulated powder where possible.
One product combines steps such as coagulation, absorption and flocculation. Adjusting its formulation provides solutions for many different streams and makes it easy to respond to changes in wastewater composition. Using one product also simplifies the operator’s work.
We supply treatment chemicals and automatic or semi-automatic treatment systems. For more information, visit the Wastewater treatment systems page via the menu or the direct link.
Chemtrade Internation B.V. has advised businesses on appropriate treatment solutions for many years. To identify the best chemical treatment, we offer a no obligation product assessment in our laboratory.
Please supply 10 litres of representative wastewater and a completed wastewater information sheet, together with any applicable discharge limits. We analyse the water and check whether the treated sample meets those limits.
For a tailored solution or an independent assessment of your current treatment, contact us or send the sample and completed sheet. We will contact you after two weeks to discuss our findings and demonstrate the proposed product.
