Gerrit Rietveld Academie
Who has not heard of the Rietveld chair? It brought worldwide fame to Dutch architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld. An art academy was named in his honour, housed in a school building he designed himself.
A new wastewater solution
Today, students from the Netherlands and abroad develop their artistic interests there, including graphic and visual arts. Common materials include coatings, paints and ceramics. Rinsing brushes and containers generates wastewater that cannot simply be discharged to the sewer.
The academy has used a treatment plant for many years, but this year it needed replacement and modernisation. Chemtrade International was asked to provide effective, efficient treatment with straightforward operation.
Initial wastewater testing and final plant configuration were agreed closely with the academy. The existing buffer remained usable. Some feed pipes were modified and the plant room refurbished.
Wastewater volumes and academy requirements led to selection of an EFAMAT PC600 batch belt filter system. Treatment needs only a powdered EFAPUR reaction separation agent, which provides coagulation, absorption and flocculation. The selected EFAPUR 1677 range is also sulphate free and low in chlorides.
EFAPUR removes the need for hazardous chemicals such as sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, making operation safer.
The result is a modern plant providing simple, responsible treatment and sewer discharge, with adequate capacity for the academy’s coming years.
