Wastewater treatment at a Belgian brickworks
Chemtrade International B.V. has won an order to supply a compact belt filter plant to a Belgian brickworks belonging to a leading manufacturer. The relatively small wastewater volume comes from mould rinsing, the sand filter, water softener and laboratory.
These streams collect and homogenise in a large underground buffer outside, next to the treatment plant.
Level monitoring checks whether sufficient water is available to fill the EFAMAT PC600’s 600 litre reactor. Once full, a powder feeder automatically doses EFAPUR. Mixing for a defined period enables coagulation, pH correction and flocculation.
The sludge settles, and the upper clear water layer is first discharged over the belt filter. A second valve then releases reactor sludge onto the filter.
The filter’s length and incline allow effective dewatering and a compact sludge volume. A nonwoven winding unit separates sludge from the filter media at the end of the belt, allowing separate collection.
This may be important if sludge is reused, for example as landfill material.
Clean filtrate collects in a small intermediate buffer and is pumped directly to a larger tank for reuse in production rinsing processes.
EFAMAT belt filter systems are available in several versions.
